The Aber Valley Cycle Way/ Community Route is a 2.7km long, off-road, community route suitable for use by walkers, cyclists, the mobility impaired and horseriders. It is an excellent community facility that follows the old railway line and starts from Station Terrace, Penyrheol and runs in a north-west direction to Church Road, Abertridwr. There are additional access points onto the route from Abertridwr. The route offers outdoor recreation opportunities for the local community, improves access to services and encourages greater levels of active and sustainable travel with associated health benefits. The route has benefitted from the Welsh Government's Safe Routes in Communities funding in 2010/11, which has enabled the route to be surfaced and drainage and access improvements to take place. The route is used by local schools and in May 2011, the local comprehensive and feeder schools took part in the St. Cenydd Activity Day. Pupils of St. Cenydd Comprehensive have designed a poster
